    Bad camcorder battery?? Help

Hi sorry I have not been on the forum much. I am having a serious issue with my camcorder. I go to turn it on today and nothing happens so I figure the rechargeable battery is simply dead but it wasn't like I left the camcorder on by accident and I fully charged it last time, so I was suspicious that something else might be wrong. First I plug the camcorder into my computer to see if it will charge, and the charge light which is red never comes on at all. It didn't appear to charge whatsoever so I put in the wall charger and the same thing happens but the camcorder did turn on using the power from the socket. This camcorder is meant to work by battery not by being plugged in. So what gives? Did my rechargeable battery go bad? Or break somehow? The camera seems to work fine otherwise. I remember reading that the rechargeable battery needs to be replaced now and then when it does not work. I have had the camera for a year. Should I just replace the battery? Do rechargeable batteries go bad after a year?? Please help!!!! Any response is helpful and much appreciated! I need this camcorder for a project mentioned in my blog which can be accessed in my signature.

Seems like I was right and my battery is simply dead and no longer usable. Where can I buy Lithium Ion camcorder batteries in-store???
