    Default News news news

It's busy around here. In Ontario, many many families are in crisis. The system of support is beyond broken - the government has invested so much in 'systems' for privacy and accountability that there's no money left over for families once bureaucrats and agencies are paid for whatever day programmes and few group homes exist. Everyone is on a waiting list. So there's a huge stink and a provincial inquiry. I testified before the committee yesterday and that was on the news http://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/parents-tel...isis-1.1644509. The paperback of my book came out today in Canada and so there was a newspaper article about that in today's local paper too: http://www.ottawacitizen.com/life/va...883/story.html.

Hopefully if we keep up this amount of 'noise' and public messaging, we will get a complete overhaul of our care support systems - one that is directed at helping families instead of just certain diagnoses who live in certain areas, etc etc. Care is care and we families know what we need. Give us the money and we'll spend it wisely and efficiently. We are not all potentially guilty of benefit fraud - we're certainly not going to take tax dollars and go on holiday! I think the government here is beginning to get that now. (They are looking into parents' eyes.)

    Thumbs up

Thank you for sharing the video of the committee hearing testimony. What a heart wrenching situation for all of these parents. But you are speaking directly to those decision makers, who can create change to meet the needs of these families. And the media is covering this story, so the public is aware of this crisis in the disabled community. I pray that your noise gets the attention of those government entities, who are responsible for this crisis, and that they respond quickly with money and sensible resolutions.

In our state, our former Governor declared that the IHSS program was wracked with fraud, and the State invested MILLIONS of tax dollars to capture all of the recipients and caregivers defrauding the program. Their haul? Less than 200 people in a program which serves 50,000 recipients. Savings? Negligible when compared to the costs of the de-fraud program. They have millions of dollars for this, but not to give to those who need the services and their caregivers. And the IHSS program is always the first one on the chopping block at budget time. Always.

CONGRATULATIONS on the launching of your updated edition of the Four Walls of My Freedom! Wishing you tremendous success in sales and a great book tour! Be sure to tell us all about it!
