First I hope everyone had a peaceful Thanksgiving. We did, I love cooking Thanksgiving dinner and eating it! Kathleen enjoyed the parade especially the balloons so I'm thankful that they were able to fly them.
The day before thanksgiving Kathleen woke up with tooth pain. We got her right into the dentist and as we thought she needs a tooth pulled. Her baby tooth (the eye tooth) is coming in crooked and the baby tooth is not coming out just getting pushed aside. Advil has helped the pain. We first got an appointment with the oral surgeon on Monday but after they heard her complicated health history thy wanted to so a consult first so it's postponed and the consult will be Wednesday. The pain has subsided for now luckily.
As you know we always seem to be trying to figure out Kathleen's health issues with the little bit of information she can give us. Most recently she will be seeing an endocrinologist for possible Hashimotos which could be what is causing her hypothyroid and inflamation of the thyroid. There are still some strange things going on that have not been quite figured out. She seems to get some attacks of butt pain, bloating of her belly, she cries that her belly feels big, very forceful burping, feeling warm and tired, and itching of her legs(could be numbness or tingling). Just this morning she woke up and her butt hurt a little. She had a bm a little later in the morning and I saw something (sorry it it's TMI!!) She passes these small yellow balls in her stool. I've seen them several times before and it doesn't look normal, they seem so perfectly round (look like a Kix cereal) but I really had no idea if it was normal. It just sounded so strange I never mentioned it. I've tried to think of something she ate that looked like this but there's nothing, and none of her meds look like this, it's too perfectly round. So this morning I actually crushed one. It was filled with a white powdery substance. I of course looked it up and It seems it could be a gallstone!! She doesn't seem to have the upper belly pain but some of the less common symptoms were burps bloating tired and feeling warm. Also it is linked to Hashimotos, crohn's and celiac. Is this crazy to think she could have gallstones??? I'll keep this in the back of my mind and watch if they appear again and what she feels like when it happens. I haven't seen anything else that these "balls" could be.

    Well, I'm stumped.

But if your research is coming up with gallstones, then that could be a possibility. And no, it sure isn't crazy to think she might have gallstones. They are more common than you might think. My mom and her mom both had gallbladder surgery, in the days when that was a MAJOR Surgery. Jon's nurse practitioner had her gallbladder removed a couple of years ago, as an outpatient and went home that day. Two of my friends have gallbladder issues due to taking Effexor; one had surgery, the other manages her issues with diet.

Maybe a call to Kathleen's urologist or the doc who did the cecostomy, just to let them know what you are finding in Kathleen's stool. They can probably tell you exactly what it is and what to do about it.

It seems never-ending. I pray that you get answers from the specialists for all of Kathleen's issues leading to a resolution of them all.

Rose, Thank you... I sometimes feel like I'm just overreacting. I've been seeing this for quite a while on and off but it seemed harmless just really strange. It's hard to figure out all that goes on for Kathleen. She has a good amount of language and can communicate so much but what she's feeling in her body is really difficult. For instance yesterday she got very upset and was holding her left leg. She said it's "tired", "it's the bone" she started to cry. I looked at her foot and it looked like a bad cramp, her toes were pointed and tight. She didn't want me to move it but she finally let me rub it and it was gone. The way she describes things is not as accurate as a typical person would. She has an appointment in a couple weeks at the surgeon who did her cecostomy. I have to say I'm thankful for all the Dr.'s who have gotten us to this point and she's feeling so much better than she was a year ago. Mostly I think her GI Dr. has helped more than any Dr. He has listened and been very proactive in getting to the bottom of things that weren't GI related. He takes every symptom very seriously and never just shrugs it off because she's smiling at him... She's fooled a lot of Dr.'s that way. She always looks so happy they can't imagine her being so sick. They tend to say she looks way better in person than on paper.

Hi Mary Grace, Wow, you have so many mysteries to solve. It's mind boggling. I remember once, Paul (Grant the Champ's dad) reported that Grant had a hard lump under the skin in his leg that turned out to be a piece of bone (as I recall)that had migrated from Grant's hip down his leg. I remember too when my own Nicholas was pooping solid food, undigested completely. Our children are 100% confounding sometimes. Well, I would query gallstones with Kathleen's doctor, but it would be really good just to have someone look at these 'balls' under a microscope. Good luck with ANOTHER challenge! Please keep us posted, dear friend xox Donna
