Default US Social Security COLA to be 1.5% in 2014

In spite of rumors about no COLA this year, apparently there will be a cost-of-living allowance increase for Social Security recipients as of January 2014--1.5%:

Wow, with that COLA of 1.5%, I should be able to afford one can of coca cola a month! Now I know what COLA stands for!

P.S. I'll give you a coke Gary, if you'll take me for a ride in you new caddy!

    Default Be Blessed

I am thankful to have the social security income on which to base a COLA increase even if it is just enough for a cola. We can thank FDR for that one.

    Thumbs up

    You are so very correct.

In 1986, when I'd been out of work for a year, unable to find a job like many others, my sons received SSI for the first time. That income, albeit small, saved our family. Truly a blessing.

Never fails, if COLA is 1.5%, then Medicare will go up 1%. You may not get that can of Coke after all.

I'm assuming you're talking about the premium? I just received a notice to the effect that there will be no increase in the premium in 2014, and that is what is stated on the Medicare Website as well:

Kittianne, how are you doing? Thanks for posting!
