    Default cronic pain

I have a question for any of you who have managed cronic pain. I will be talking with Kathleen's GI Dr. this week and hopefully we will discuss managing ehr cronic pain. He seems to think that the belly pain is not just from the cronic constipation but is from nerve damage and the nerves constantly are firing pain signals. I know we have to make her feel better but I'm always fearful of new meds especially things for pain. Any ideas or experience with this ie. meds that worked didn't work caused side effects etc.
It helps to be ready with some questions about anything he suggests becasue it's so hard to communicate with the office.

    ((((((Mary Grace & Kathleen))))))

I have no experience with treating chronic pain, although Jon does have osteoporosis and chronic pain in his hips.

Has Kathleen's GI mentioned the "brain in the gut?"

I googled it and came up with lots of websites, but here is one:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/24/he...pagewanted=all

We have two brains: one in our head and one in our gut.

I don't know whether this is helpful, but I just wanted to bring it to your attention.

I hope that others will stop by with their experiences with pain meds.

Sending healing energy and prayers ~

    Love & Light,

    Rose

Rose, thank you for that article. That was very interesting. I'm going to do a little more research into this. In fact her GI Dr. did briefly mention that they sometimes use anti-depresants for this pain. That too scares me since she's only 15 and she really can't describe her feeling. Thanks again for the article I may even try to contact this DR. by email if I can.

I'm so glad that the article provided you with some information. The Google search did bring up quite a few sites, so there is more information out there. It's worth mentioning to the GI doc, although I would imagine it wouldn't be "news" to him.

I truly hope that something can be done to abate Kathleen's pain. Bless her heart ~ so many battles for her. And I sure understand your hesitancy about more drugs.

    Please keep us posted.

I'm so sorry that Kathleen is having such a dreadful time (and you too!). Nick has chronic pain, but it's ortho related. Nerve pain is very tricky and especially if it's gut pain. Here's a book I found: http://www.springer.com/medicine/int...-1-60761-708-2. When Nick had terrible gastro problems as a younger child, we used the genius help of Dr. Carlo di Lorenzo and Dr. Peter J. Milla (Dr. Di Lorenzo was at that time at UCLA Berkeley and Dr. Milla was at Great Ormond St. Hospital in London). I just found their phone numbers in medical journals (now I use Google scholar) and phoned them up with my sob story. They both took my call and gave advice over the phone. When we moved to London, we used Dr. Milla and he helped us so much. Good luck .... poor Kathleen.
