Smile Fixing a computer from afar

Here it is folks an actual thread discussing computers !

    ------------------------

There is FREE software EASY to use that will allow you to work on someone's system from far far away. Conversely one could use this software to get help from afar.

I know that Microsoft OS has "remote assistance" built into it but it has been my experience that it is difficult to get the help-ee through the necessary steps to make the connection. Often it fails to establish a connection at all and reports "errors". And then ? you can't help the poor lost soul.

BUT NOW there are alternatives; quick, easy and free for private (home users) use.

What is this wondrous program you ask ? Would it help me be helped or help others you say ?

Oh...it works great ! (even better if you make simultaneous phone contact while troubleshooting)

(no computers were harmed in the making of this post)

    Default What now ?

    Oh sure,

Most of you , ok, a couple of you, well, maybe one of you...who have read this thread are wondering, "what next?" , and "why did I want to control my great aunt's computer anyhow?"

To make it work better right ? To get rid of spyware right ? To adjust her privacy settings on facebook right ?

    Right...

Here are a couple of suggestions things to do while haunting that distant system:

With windows XP or more recent...set a system restore point and then...

Download, install and run the free version of Malwarebytes ! to clear out bad stuff.

Download, install and run the free version of Ccleaner ! after clearing out junk use the "tools" button to run the registry checker to straighten out the registry ! (yeah, choose the registry backup option the first time or two).

After clearing out a bunch of junk files and registry errors it might be a good idea to defrag the hard drive.

    Reboot !

Chat with your great aunt while you are doing these things and assure her "its really no trouble" and "call anytime".

After making sure the system is running great...faster...without popups and freezes...say "bye" to your great aunt and get away from your phone and computer for a few hours....cause you can always work on it more later (maybe next week).
