The visual field exam shows increasing loss of vision in my right eye over the past 12months. She has rules out cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and she says the optic nerve looks okay. I have taken Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) for over a decade. She says that she doesn't see "staining" on my retina, which is what would be expected should the Plaquenil be the cause. I wonder, too, about it being just one eye. Still, she is recommending I stop the medication. I have many health problems--fibromayalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, Type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, low ferritin levels, GERD, and TIA's in the past. I also get terrible migraines, and they have increased in number and severity. Interesting to note: the migraines on the left side respond to Imitrex (sumatriptan), but the migraines on the right side do not. My friends urge me to see a neurologist. What sort of questions should I be prepared to ask a doctor?
