    Post "Infinite Dreams"

    Zina Bethune
    In Loving Memory

Early Sunday morning, Zina Bethune spotted a wounded animal in the road,
left her car and ran across the road to rescue the animal.
She was struck by two oncoming cars in opposite directions,
and she died at the scene.

    Trained under George Balanchine,
Zina joined the New York City Ballet
    at age 14,
despite her dysplatic hips, scoliosis and lymphedema.

She starred as Clara in the first televised "The Nutcracker."

Zina danced and sang on Broadway,
appeared as an actress in television shows and soap operas,
and in Martin Scorcese's debut film,
"Who's That Knocking at My Door?"
    in 1967.

    Perhaps her greatest achievement in
    her 66 years
    was her dedication to
teaching dance to children with disabilities.

    Through her non-profit theatre group,
    "Infinite Dreams,"
    Zina taught thousands of children,
with a variety of disabling conditions,
    to dance.

One of her students is quoted on Zina's website,
"No one ever told me I couldn't dance,
they only said I couldn't walk."

    Zina brought joy and hope,
    and creative expression
    to many children.

    With devotion and grace,
    Zina encouraged her students
    to find their artistic beauty
    through movement, music, and dance.

    A beautiful soul,
    a compassionate spirit,
    a caring person,
    whose presence
    made the world
    a much lovelier place.

May she rest peacefully in God's Arms.

Our Angel Michael received his wings in 2003. Our Angel Jon received his wings April 2019. Now, they watch over Jim and me.

What a beautiful testament to a beautiful person. Dreaming is a worthy pursuit and Zina was certainly a leader - I dance every day and it helps me to dream. Thank you for telling me about this wonderful person and her extraordinary life, Rose!
