    Default Help! Occipital Headaches

Hi! Need some advice PLEASE...my husband was in an auto acident in October of 2011. He has been having weird buzzing in his head, numbness, pain, this moves into his shoulder. He is being treated for occipital neuralgia. He just had a shot in the back of his head, and he called to see what he was given and the nurse told him it was sodium bicarbonate. Why would he be injected with sodium bicarbonate for headaches??? Thanks for any replies...

    Default Occipital headache

Occipital neuralgia can be difficult to treat. I can't answer why sodium bicarbonate was injected, but that's a good question for his doctor. I've had injections of various numbing agents, with generally poor results, but everybody responds differently - don't give up hope. If you can, see a pain management doctor, preferably in a pain clinic. Many medications are used in treating neuralgia, so be prepared to try different meds. If medications and other therapies don't offer significant relief, ask about doing a trial of a nerve stimulator.

    Best of luck to you.
