Isn't that just ducky? "Unintended, off-target effects," eh?

Perhaps I'm mincing words here, but if this new drug worsens MS and has off-target effects, then it is no longer promising. Is it?
Every TV commercial or digital or printed ad for autoimmune drugs, for MS, RA, Psoriasis, Chron's, etc, and chemo or immunotherapy drugs for cancer, lists the multitudinous side effects, including death, of the drug. Chemo drugs can cause cancer. So, you're taking a drug to kill your cancer; instead, you get more cancer.
This happened to Jim with Gemcitabine, which caused a neoplasm on his skull after 6 infusions. Opdivo cut his tumor in half, and it gave him 2 more years than his first oncologist predicted. But after a year on it, his WBC tanked, his liver was shot, and it was downhill from there.
I've noticed that many of the scientific names for these drugs end in "mab," "lab" or "bine." Jim took several of them. The new COVID antibody therapy drug is: bamlanivimab. I'm sure it has much in common with the others of its ilk.
Every drug, test, and medical treatment has risks. How do we choose how much risk we are willing and able to take?
Keeping everyone in my prayers and sending healing, positive energy ~
