    Great numbers suze!7B2A5F44-FE7B-4AC1-B626-70C2147490D7.jpg
That photo was one captured by a neighbor at 5 a.m. today affiliated with the Space-x link up with the ISS and some other type of separation...Just as weird as everything else going on in the world today.
And to think Iwas up at 5 am, and only 7 steps from my bathroom door. Dang.

1/2 mile swim today. Cooked dinner this morning with some help. Will rest up after early lunch, sleep a bit, then do pills if time.

Just keep doing whatever you are able to do, Sunshine, enjoy it, and don't worry about the rest. You may find some days are better than others. Maintaining any fitness program, no matter what, will always help you to maximize your capabilities for as long as possible.

            You're doing good.

I swam 1/2 mile this morning and it felt good. The warm air, and warm pool were a perfect recipe. THen I cooked tonight’s dinner: a casserole. The base is sautéed fennel cubes with garlic in EVOO and some vinegar, with diced tomato on top. Then you put raw shrimp on top of it, about a pounds worth, the shrimp curling down,, not on its side. Then on top of it is a mixture of feta cheese, chopped parsley, breadcrumb , Evoo. Bake 15 minutes. ITs my favorite dish.

I make it when my housekeeper comes, as she is a good cook and helps me clean up and put things away. And good person all round. We where masks. My newest mask she gave me: Its dogs surfing on surf boards :)

Sunshine, you make the most interesting dishes. So glad your swim this morning was enjoyable.

I have thought of having my housekeeper come back wearing a mask and me wear one. But with her big family I think it is risky. Not because she would knowingly do anything to hurt me, but I just think she might be in a position to be exposed without realizing it.

I'm in favor of the mask-wearing, Virginia.

Lately I've been involved in dealing with my 97-year-old neighbor friend's apartment. She gave me the keys long ago, and now it's time to use them. She's in a "post-hospital treatment center" and sadly on her way out. She's been in and out of reality for the last couple of weeks, and in that time I sometimes had to go into the apartment with her helper. We both wore masks all the time.

You can make up your mind not to get too close to people but things happen. A couple of times the helper was showing me something I had to look at up close, for instance. We were removing rotting food from the apartment, and she was calling my attention to some potatoes that were going bad.

Edited to add: She doesn't have COVID-19 so far as I know. She had developed shingles, and then she fell. The shingles pain was very difficult, and she stopped eating--and now they say she won't last much longer.

Agate, you have helped this neighbor for quite awhile now. I am sure if she knew what was going on she would be telling you this. I know you ordered her groceries for a long time. Personally, I don't know any 97 year old people, but I bet none of them would be able to use a computer, if I did. I am so sorry she had the shingles before having to go to a home.

Older women who don't have resources are in a very bad spot. This is the 4th such person I've tried to help, over the years. There just wasn't enough help available for them without at least some friends. Each time I've been able to enlist a couple of other people in the helping effort, and I'm so glad they were there pitching in.

Together her neighbors seem to have helped to keep her out of a nursing home for quite a few years.

Re: hair salons, housekeepers, old women, etc.

I had my hair cut on Saturday. Only one client in the salon at a time. You must wear a mask as does the only stylist. She took my temperature and asked me to sanitize my hands. The next customer had to wait outside until I left. The rules are posted on the website for the salon so I knew ahead of time and felt it was fairly safe. About the best she could do.

Our friend and housekeeper, Luci called to see if we were ready for her to come back. We said that we were not but would re-assess in August.

I had a nurse appointment for a vaccine on Monday. It’s been put off three times but the timing is important. They had a sign on the door to call a number to be let in. No one answered the first 5 times I called. Then the mail carrier came with a boatload of mail. She was not going to call anyone. She started to bang on the plate glass windows and someone did come. I managed to convey to her that no one was answering the flipping phone!

An assistant came and asked me to step in between two sets of glass doors and sanitize my hands. Then, I was given a mask and asked to use that mask instead of my own. Everywhere I went I was at least six feet from workers except when a nurse gave me the shot. The exit was through a different path and door. Also, pretty safe except for not answering the phone and leaving me on a street corner sidewalk.

Mom, who is 95 and lives alone, has declined to have blood work done to monitor her Coumadin dosage. She thinks there is a higher risk from CoVID than bleeding. She has also deferred her house cleaner but is paying her. And, she told my brother and his wife that she is not ready to risk houseguests.

We each have to navigate these new decisions for ourselves. I think it is telling that my PMD, who is also an Infectious Disease Specialist, is not yet seeing patients in the office. I have a virtual visit with him on Thursday.

I’ll report on exercise in another post. I’m in awe of your perseverance, Sunshine, and your menus.

I am really glad that I was motivated to started improving my physical fitness. It's been about 12 or so weeks now since I began a steady increase in my indoor walking. I continue to do my leg lifts, wall pushups and also situps, but I do those 3x/week.

I would never have expected 12 weeks ago, when I was walking around 13-1500 or so steps per day, max around 2,000, that in such a short time, I'd be walking 6,000 steps 3x/week, and walking around 2 miles/day or 4,000 steps on most other days. That's around 17 miles/week I'm now walking.

                                This week:

                                Saturday- 6221
                                Sunday- 4084
                                Monday- 6043
                                Tuesday- 4099
                                Wednesday- 4061
                                Thursday- 6059
                                Friday- 4007

I am heartened that I am making a difference in my health. A 2005 study out of Duke University Medical Center found that a moderate exercise regimen, such as 12 miles of brisk walking each week, can provide significant improvements in fitness levels while reducing the risks of developing cardiovascular disease.

I've had no asthma events and have not used my inhaler in months, it may or may not be related to this. I have not lost any weight, but the above study found benefits were outside of any weight loss.

It has shown me that I was capable of more than I thought, even if I can't walk it all at once, and still have hard limits when I reach them. It's shown me that there are no negative neurological effects from reaching my neurological max several times/day, then needing to rest to recover. On the contrary, I seem to need less downtime to recuperate.

But it's been good for me to determine what is a neurological limit, and what was the result of disuse and lack of activity. I had increasing cholesterol. I was prescribed a statin, but have been putting off taking it. I'm going to get a blood test to see if I managed to reduce it on my own. We shall see. I'm hopeful I'm impacting my bone density as well with my latest osteopenia diagnosis.
