Default New poll about sticky threads

A while back there was a poll about the sticky threads here. Some people find it annoying to have sticky threads always at the top of the page--the first thing most people will see when they come here. Others find some of the stickies to be useful, and others would like all of them to remain.

We more or less agreed to keep all of the stickies from the old board. Since then two new stickies have been added. I'm guessing that one of them, Forum Archives, is supposed to remain, and so it won't be included in this new poll.

Please vote for any sticky threads you'd like to see remain on the board, and when the results are in, the moderators can be ask to make any changes we want.

The poll will run for a month. Nobody will know how you voted.

:) Hi everyone. I hope y'all are all doing okay.

In regard to the stickies, is there anyway to have them on the last page with a note at the top of page one telling everyone how to get to them. I never make it to page 2 and I'm sure many others don't either. I don't think they should be eliminated just not all on page 1.

David's sister and husband are here from California. I wore myself out cleaning anything that had not been cleaned lately. We went to dinner last night and lunch today. Now David and they are headed downstate to see their cousin and go to the casino in the evening to bet on 11/11/11. I bowed out as I need to rest for tomorrow.

They plan to go 30 miles north to visit their niece's father and I will skip that too. Tomorrow night we are to drive to Ft. Lauderdale and go on the Jungle Queen sight seeing dinner cruise. I am going to bundle up good and do that as it is in the 50's at night.

Sunday they leave on a 7 day cruise so we have a rest before they come back.

Gary I hope you are better. You are all in my nightly prayers. Jeanie :)

About putting stickies on the last page--I doubt that it can be done because the point of making a thread a sticky is to keep it at the top of the first page so it will be noticed first.

This isn't so convenient for people like you who come here to see what's new in the current threads but we have to think about newcomers and what they might be looking at too.

If I were coming here for the first time, I'd probably be interested in knowing what information this board wants to keep upfront, and I'd look at the stickies to see if the information is helpful and up-to-date.

One problem that was raised about the archived stickies that were brought over here is that so many of the people posting in them are no longer here. But quite a number of people in those threads are still here, and I think there's something to be said for showing that this board has lasted for as long as it has. This isn't one of your flash-in-the-pan message boards.

Anyone voting in the poll should keep in mind just what you'd like newcomers to see when they come here.

--Jeanie, there's such a thing as being too clean, don't you think? I'm referring to this statement in your post:

I wore myself out cleaning anything that had not been cleaned lately.
Definitely not worth wearing yourself out!

The first two are good resources. Although when it was written 5 years ago, the Evidence for Conventional and Alternative therapies is quite outdated and newer stronger information is available in simple searches. Furbabies...I have no interest in and the memorium to Grassman is so old that many here do not even remember who he was and many of those who contributed to that thread are not even here anymore.

    Cherie, thanks for your input.

    About the Furbabies thread:
It's not just a thread--it contains a link to a Photobucket album where members have posted pet photos.

Because many people who posted pet photos are still here or might come back at any time, I'm in favor of keeping this thread going. Posting photos isn't easy for many people. If long-term members have gone to the trouble of posting their pet photos in that thread, it seems a shame to bury them in the archives.

Thanks Agate. I understand that and still there are days when I have a hard time figuring how to post a photo without a link to facebook or to photobucket or kodak gallery. And I have photos of both our dog Bessie (recently desceased) and our cat Mo there. I just do not see it as being necessary on this forum. That's just my opinion.

When I open this site, my screen is entirely filled with stickies, none of which I ever use so I must scroll down to find anything that is current. If there is strong feeling about Fur Babies, I will not get in the way.

I think there's general agreement that too many stickies aren't good. Would it be all right with everyone if the two stickies with the lowest number of votes are the ones we ask the moderators to remove?

I hope everyone will vote. This is an opportunity when we can have some control over how this board looks and functions.

Old stickies that get removed would always still be available in the Forum Archive sticky thread, of course.

If you'd like, we could have a thread titled Stickies from the old forum. Having links to all in one thread, would save room at the top. Then if anyone wanted information from one of the threads, they could click on the link in the sticky, and read the thread.
It's really easy to put someone on ignore and it's strongly recommended that you do so with people whose posts you don't like.

    Step 1 - log in
Step 2 - click on the "settings" link
Step 3 - click on the "edit ignore list" link on the left side of the screen
Step 4 - type (or paste if you copied and pasted it) the username of the person you want to ignore
Step 5 - click the "ok" button on the right of the screen

One important note though, this won't hide quoted posts.

Thanks for the idea, Moderator 5!

Maybe we could take the 3 stickies with the fewest votes and put them into the new thread called Stickies from the old forum, and keep the 2 stickies with the most votes as they are?

That would leave us with a total of 4 stickies at the top of the board if my arithmetic is right--the 2 stickies with the most votes, the Forum Archives sticky, and the new sticky called Stickies from the old forum. (Currently there are 6 stickies.)

    Any thoughts on this?
