Default Yesterday at farmers’ Market ......OT

    Yesterday at Market:
I looked up from my world’s best cranberry beans at yesterday’s market and wondered if I was seeing correctly. There, standing in front of me, was my favorite of all times student. Oh what a hug I got and gave.

So, my former student and now friend got to see me in all my glory. On her way to visit her daughter at Dartmouth she stopped in Northampton. We bounced around talking, sharing and introducing.....my student who scored 1600 on SAT’s I think when she was a junior. And lost by $1 when on Jeapordy.

Ann was as lively as ever. Told me about wanting to buy a Bayleaf tree, wanted some of my sunflowers to bring her daughter and generally melted into the market. Several minutes later she quietly told me that her husband had died. Oh, I am so sorry. What happened? 10 year battle with multiple myeloma. Oh, I am so glad you stopped to visit with me.

When Ann left, merely half an hour later, a 20 year market customer, Debra stopped to see me. her mother had just died. Were you friends with your mom? Yes, at least, she said, in the last few years. Yes, Debra will miss her mother . And I am very happy I was there so Debra could find me to share.

And then, My friend who is writing a novel stopped to bring me the next 5 chapters to review. And he brought his daughter who is interning at MIT. This daughter, Angelica, brought her boyfriend so I could meet him. I approve!

So, it feels that I was important as a witness to the momentous moments in the lives of my customer friends.

It is good to see the web of life and to be able to say, “I am useful to my community.” Thanks for this, Linda.

Linda, no wonder you had mentioned that you had a good day at the Farmer's Market. Priceless memories you are making.

That dog died several years ago. They never got another. Angelica lives in Boston.
