Rose, it was not upsetting and I think anyone of us would have posted it. The association is mainly because Peg is the only member of this board that I am aware who ever tried any type of stem cells.

Peg was the only one I could think of too, Virginia, and I don't know much about that treatment either--just recall that she mentioned going for it and having had it. I don't recall that she said much about it.

My guess is that she's had HSCT. Not sure why she felt she had to shave her head. I haven't heard that that is done with that treatment or with any MS treatment. Hair loss occurs with some cancer treatments but I haven't heard of extreme hair loss with any MS treatment.

So young to be losing her speech and other functions. Many here have been there and done that but it's still sad when you see someone else dwindling into MS.
Hair loss is almost a given with HSCT due to the high dose chemo to wipe out the immune system. Significantly thinning hair happens. I had a friend who did this and she said 2 mornings in a row she woke with so much hair on her pillowcase that she asked the nurse to shave her head. When I was on Cytoxan at high doses (about 1/6th of what is given in 5 consecutive doses for HSCT) I lost most of my hair after three months and wore a wig for the remainder of the 2 years on therapy. I have spoken to at least 8 people who have had this treatment and ALL of them lost most of their hair.

More on Selma Blair--the article also discusses Dave Bexfield, who has been mentioned on this board several times:
