Cat, one time said that when she was self cathing that it was faster for her to do than getting her clothes down and going the normal way. She said it was not at all bad. However, Sunshine if it was me having to do it I would feel as you do.

I got my medical alert box and stuff to go with it today. I went to my bedroom where my master phone is and tried and tried to hook it up. I just could not get it right and get the phone and everything to stay on at the same time. I finally stopped and decided I would send it back. I put it in the kitchen, fixed supper and then set down in the living room. It really got to me that I had been unable to do it, so I just said I will not be defeated by a medical alert system. I got it went back and hooked it up in about 10 minutes. All I had to do was read the instructions a little more slowly and not think I knew a better way to do it. I will get it registered tomorrow.

Yeah, that's the way a man does a task. I never read the instructions, and do it the way I think it should be done. But FINALLY, in my old age, I've figured out to read the instructions CAREFULLY, and do it the way it says. We are both getting wiser!

Actually, I use to read more carefully when installing something all the time, but then I have been around Howie so long I think I started thinking like a man.

Howie, are you in your Avatar saying you want beer? Surely, you are one of those men.

Yeah, I'm one of the protesters, but I'm not saying which one!

He's the one wearing only a thong.

I don't see any men wearing only a thong in the photo.

Therefore Howie isn't in the photo.

He didn't really tell a story. He meant to be in the photo. He was there but out of range of the camera.

Does it hurt to cath? Is it hard, or tricky to learn? Do you do it over a toilet? How is it that one can cath without pulling down pants?? Does a piece of it stay in your body the whole time, or is it in for pee and out when done?

Cherie has a lot of experience w self-cathing. She once posted a detailed description on how to do it. Maybe she can unearth it for you. I don’t remember which forum it was on or if it might be in the archived here.

You cannot cath without pulling down your pants. It may be that there was an indwelling catheter in place that was clamped off and could be unclamped and the bladder emptied.
I was scheduled to meet with a woman with MS to teach her how to self cath when I was still working as a home care nurse. When I got there she told me that the catheters had arrived the day before, she had looked on WebMD for procedure, figured there were only three holes down there and it could not be two of them so she felt for the opening of the urethra and just popped the catheter in. Voila! I find it easier to sit on the toilet and cath by feel rather than stand and use a mirror. It is easier for me and no, it does not hurt but the catheters they have used in the office to get a specimen or check for residual urine do hurt me.
