Two eggs expected to hatch the first week of March, in this Great Horned Owl nest in San Francisco. These owls hijacked this nest from a pair of hawks!

These birds are truly beautiful and huge. I saw one sitting in our oak tree once, with it's back to me, and I thought it was a large cat until it swiveled it's head around and looked at me with big gold eyes! Then it spread it's huge wings and silently glided away. The "horn" feathers on these owls look just like cat ears from behind!
It must have been exciting to see an owl like that. I enjoy watching the way the owl's head can swivel.

Daddy just flew in with a mouse for mom but every time he handed it to her he took it back. Hootin' all the while. She finally got ahold of it and flew away. He stood there looking perplexed like he was wondering what he was supposed to do now that he was left with the two eggs. He finally flew off and the eggs sit alone! Men!!!

The Wind is roaring everywhere today. Poor owl in SF is being blown about. A person could get seasick watching tonight!

I wish that I had more time to visit all of these sites to see these fascinating birds. I did stop by Decorah this evening. Mom is sitting on two eggs! The second egg was laid today. The nest is encircled with snow, and it is 10 degrees in Decorah. Brrr ...

    Thanks for the link, agate:

This page has several eagle web cams all at your fingertips. Just scroll down and click on any nest you want to view . . . Decorah, Decorah North (I didn't know there were two!) Sauces, West End, Two Harbors, Fraiser, a West End overview cam, and last but not least, a Catalina Harbor cam where there is a pair of bald eagles currently building a nest. So handy to have all the eagle viewing in one place!

Feeling sorry for the poor Decorah eagles sitting in snow and the Frasier eagle soaking wet in rain today!

I hope she is not as uncomfortable as it appears. The wind is whipping and she is sitting in snow. I too feel sorry for her.

Anybody watching the bird cams? Just watched 3 new eagle chicks being fed at the Frasier nest.
