Well, my body has officially started falling apart (funny to say that given how long I've been dealing with MS!), so I've realized that, while doing nothing may allow my MS symptoms and limitations not to be in my face all the time and I can pretend many of them don't exist, what it is doing instead is letting the rest of my body go to pot and causing even more issues that I can't ignore if I care at all about my quality of life.

So, concerted movement is now on my agenda to see if I can turn this trend around.

    Yesterday:

    1250 steps
    60 knee ups
    squats
    60 sit ups
    50 wall pushups

SuzE-Q, that’s a great plan and good work. Chocolate for you, your favorite kind.

SuzE-Q, you're ready for a medal of some kind--I hope that the chocolate ANN is sending will make all of that exercise more tolerable.

Playing music while doing exercises can be helpful, I think.

Suze-Q, that is a great agenda. You are off to a really good start. Good for you!

Today I dusted up the bannisters and all over upstairs. Then I vacuumed all over downstairs. Now I will peel a potato for dinner. Eating leftover meatloaf from SIL.

    Thanks, Virginia, agate, and ANN!

Agate, I only do exercise in increments, so really can't incorporate music as part of it, as much as I agree that it helps.

But, I do find I do much more if I split it up, I'm glad for the research that showed it's as effective as in one single session.

Today I went out to get my flu shot. I went to my Doctor's office and had to wait about 15 or 20 minutes. After I got that I just kept going and went to Belk's at our largest shopping mall. I bought two pair of bedroom slippers, then I went to cosmetics and was there for quite awhile, then I went to the coat department and looked at coats, then to sleepwear and lounge wear. By this time I had been there for approximately an hour and 20 minutes. I thought I had overshot my ability to get to the car. I was dragging so bad I didn't want to know what the sales clerks might be saying about me.

By this time it was heavy traffic at almost 5:30P.M. It was dark and all I could see was red rear lights as far as my eye could see in front of me. I got to Whole Foods and stopped and went in there to buy a couple of items. I also got a hot dinner and went through the salad bar and got a salad for tonight. Came home and emptied the car.

I think I did a little walking today. Should have had a step counter. I am tired. I got home at 6:45 and I left at 3:00. A little long since quite a lot was on my feet.

That's a lot of walking, Virginia! I hate that feeling, knowing I've expended my limits yet knowing I still need to make my way back to my car or home.

I feel we become extremely hypervigilant, or at least I have, I'm constantly gauging where I'm at physically to make sure I can make it back to the car or home.

Gauging how much I can get away with--that is a major challenge for me.

Every day I spend a minute in the morning and a minute in the evening running through a few exercises. There are several additional ones that I do while lying on the bed, twice a day.

    10 clamshells
10 routines involving opening the knees with a resistance band around them (every other day)
    20 side-lying hip lifts
10 lifts with ball between knees, pressing knees together

20 exercises with hands on hips while standing, pressing shoulders together ("standing backward bend")
10 routines with exercise band held by a closed door. I take the two ends of the band and pull back with my arms (every other day)
10 sideways leg lifts on each side, leading with heels, or 10 sideways pairs of steps
10 quadriceps chair squats (while hanging on to a counter, bending knees so as to "sit down," then rising to upright position)
20 tiptoe stands, held for several seconds each
40 foot lifts (every other day)

This sounds like a lot but it isn't very time-consuming. I've been doing these for a couple of years now, ever since the PT assigned them.

I don't know if doing these routines has helped me to get away with more physical activity than before but I like to think it is helping.

That sounds like a good routine, Agate. “A” for you and everybody knows that “A” stands for A piece of chocolate!

Will incorporate some of those into my routine too, thanks, agate!
