Sunshine, you say it is a chronic thing with the eye. What do you mean? Is it that after the shingles are gone it continues to hurt? What else could it be? I REALLY need more chronic stuff in my life!!!! On my way to the Doctor.

Both friends continue to have to use drops and be watchful. They both can see as well as before. They lead very active lives with it.

Went to PCP this morning. She gave me fresh Valtrex. She was worried about the potency of the ones I have. She also gave me Tramadol for pain. However, she will give me something else for pain if I need it. She seems to feel that the pain will be worse in another day or two and then she said I was looking at 7 to 8 weeks anyway. She was very concerned about my eyes and said I needed to see my Opthamologist as quickly as possible. She said he might want to put me on steroid eye drops. I saw him this afternoon. He said he needed another couple of days to see how I do. He says the eye drops carry their own set of problems.

Ann, my PCP said she did not know of a cream that would keep me from scarring. She told me to just use a soothing cream or calamine lotion. Then she said Benadryl. She told me to just really lather it on. My eye Doctor said she was trying to keep the scabs down if she could.

I found that aspercreme with lidocaine is the only thing that helps me with my residual shingles effect. Numbs it, keeps the itching under control. I so hope this turns out to be minor and you're feeling better soon.

Isn't that always the way? There's no winning.

I hope you'll start feeling better with the added remedies--and that you'll soon get better news from the family too.

    ((((((Virginia)))))) ~

So glad you were able to see your PCP and Opthamologist today and have fresh meds.

When my boys had chicken pox, the doctor recommended Aveeno oatmeal cream and body wash. I wonder whether a hemp cream might help you. We've used Body Shop Hemp cream for rashes and itches, and it works well.

Here's a site, which suggests using cold compresses on the rash:

And here's an organic natural cream for shingles:

Healing prayers on the way ~

Thanks for the information re creams, etc. Right now I am in the headache, sometime hurting stage, but blisters have not oozed yet. It was my understanding from the Doctor this morning that after that was when the pain got even worse and that's when I might want to try a different cream. The Benadryl cream is alright I guess for now. I just washed some off with cold water and put some fresh on. I am going to try to stay up really late tonight and get another Valtrex in. She wanted me to have 3 a day and I have only had 2 since I saw her.

Lots of information on here. Thanks to all of you.

You have to be VERY careful not to get aspercreme in or near the eye! Also steroid eye drops can contribute to development of cataracts and can actually abraid and crack the cornea. I had a LOT of trouble with them after my cataract surgery and had to come off them after 5 days instead of the recommended 3 weeks because my cornea was so damaged from them.

    Heal quickly
