Maybe they're afraid of goblins and witches and other scary things.

Agate, you are so good with all these emojis.

Okay, so I will now tell you all a little sideline to my toilet problem. When my youngest brother called the plumber, the plumber would not do anything about the cost and declared that along with installing a new flapper in the hall bathroom it really was the price. Finally, my brother told him "well if your conscience can live with this then I guess ours can too". Then along comes my middle brother and his wife who tell me that the price was in line with what they paid and they went to Lowe's and personally chose theirs. They got two new ones and described them as something like mine. They paid $438.00 for each one. A handyman that they had doing some other work installed them, so they didn't know the total cost because he just gave a lump sum price for everything he was doing for them.

These new ones do not have flappers, so that will never have to be worried about going bad. It has a big round thing in it and looks very heavy duty. Anyway, maybe the plumber was not as big a crook as we thought.

Today someone from the city water department left a flyer on my door and said they had checked my meter and that I had a plumbing problem which I needed to get fixed. I called them and they just checked it today, but they were going by a reading from a couple of days before I got it fixed. I got a water bill of almost $90.00. I don't know if there will be a couple of more days on the next bill or not. I sure hope not. We will see what this new fangled toilet does to my water bill.

:) Well Andy just went home and we turned off the outside lights. We had about 12 kids and a lot of candy left. Next year we are going to just leave the outside lights off. Jeanie :)

Virginia, many of the newer toilets are built so that you can't get at the works inside the tank. The one I had in the building I used to live in--the newer toilet they had to install-- was like that. You lift up the tank lid, and everything in there is enclosed in a case that you can't open.

But the newer toilets are all the low-flow kind and supposedly use a lot less water. So your water bill should be lower.

Howie, are you offering me a flying car? That sounds like fun. I'll take it! You're the soul of generosity, no doubt about it.

Thanks for thinking of me, Howie. It might be handy when the roads are impassable or traffic is slowing everything down but I think I'll wait till it comes down in price a bit.
