I've voted in every election in which I was eligible. We have 4 a year here in Wisconsin, for various state and local seats, and then of course the "big" one. I've supported some in a variety of ways, and did it wholeheartedly...only to have them lose. it was devastating. I was hurt, embarrassed. But only for a day. And then I just got going on the rest of business of life. I always felt like the opposition candidate at lease was a decent person, had good intentions, had some knowledge of basic things like the constitution, bill of rights, rule of law, separation of church and state, I've always felt, for the most part, that the opposition candidate was basically a good person, was moral, had values, just that they were different from mine. But not THIS time. Trump exhibits none of the above characteristics. Yes, I am devastated. And frightened. And appalled. And determined that this can't happen again.

    Thumbs down

:) I am scared. When he was having talks with the generals he interrupted several times and asked if we have nuclear weapons why are we not using them. He is so ignorant he does not realize nuclear weapons would end the world. Most of my friends and family voted for him. I was only able to cancel one of their votes.

If I was younger and healthy I would go to Canada and live. It is hard to fathom why blacks and Latinos voted for him. One of the men running for Congress here in Florida wants to cut veterans pay and Social Security and he got elected. All his ads showed him with two artificial legs so I think he got the sympathy vote but he lives in a $700,000. home. So cutting veterans pay won't bother him.

We need someone to put Congress on term limits, Social Security and Medicare and they would fix all of them, but not while they have their own insurance, huge salary, limited work days and a huge lifetime pension. SS should never have been borrowed from ever and a lot was taken out of it. There would be plenty to keep it going if Congress had not borrowed from it.

The Congress is now a majority Republican. I just pray Congress can keep him from making things worse. Also a conservative Supreme Court judge will be named. I am not going to watch for awhile. Jeanie :)

People wondered how fascism was able to come to power in Germany. It is because good people allowed it.

There is plenty of blame to go around, I do blame the media for giving him so much air time during the primary season, virtually ignoring honorable politicians such as Kasich. Shame on the media.

Shame on fellow Republicsns who did not come out and condemn him. There were exceptions, but not enough exceptions.

And shame on people who voted for him For getting sucked in by all the hate.

I am re reading 1984. In that chilling tale by Orwell, you might recall the Two Minute Hate sessions. Even anti government people would get caught up in how great it felt to release all the hate in those two minutes .

I pray that the wheels of government can rein him in. That his daughter can educate him. That the military keeps him in check. That cooled heads in Congress keep him in check.

Well said BBS. In the meantime there are those of us who will be fearful and sad for a very long time. We had such high hopes. Also, the divide is so great that friends and family are involved. That is when is gets even harder.

Unfortunately, I feel sure that most of the people who voted for him will not even listen to the concession speech she made today and they will not acknowledge how much they lost. I don't know how this lady did it, but she did. I was very proud of her

Having voted proudly and gratefully in every election in the last 46 years, this one was the most personal to me.

As a young lawyer, Hillary Clinton was instrumental in creating and passing federal legislation guaranteeing children with disabilities the right to a free and appropriate public education. This is the first election in my lifetime, where a candidate addressed the needs of persons with disabilities. Previously, this minority has been ignored by every Presidential candidate.

Her opponent's mocking of a reporter with disabilities brought our disabled citizens to the forefront in this election. A few days ago, he ordered security to remove a 12 year old boy, with cerebral palsy, in a wheelchair from his rally. The boy and his mother were holding up Hillary signs. "Get Them Out!" he shouted. Security manhandled the boy's wheelchair and intimidated the boy and his mom.

Hillary's Florida press secretary escorted the boy and his mother to a Hillary rally, where President Obama was speaking, and she arranged for them to meet the President after his speech.

Our President-elect has been sued numerous times for violations of the ADA in his hotels and resorts. Blatant discrimination in each case. All of those are among 3,500+ lawsuits against him for assorted issues, including his "university."

In America, more than 50 million people have a disabling condition. Every one of those citizens is more vulnerable than ever now. The thought of losing our rights and everything that we have gained over these decades, and for which I have advocated visibly and vocally, devastates me.

His obvious disdain and disregard for persons with disabling conditions is enough to warrant my fear. I've been in the political trenches, and I've heard and seen it all. And I know exactly what I'm looking at today. And it is terrifying.

I haven't told Jon yet that Hillary did not win. I don't know how to explain it to him. He's just been through a medical crisis, and he doesn't need the stress. Nor do Jim and I. Yet, here we are, wondering about our future.

Tonight, protesters are flooding the streets across the country, demonstrating their opposition to the results of this election. In my heart, I am on the street with all of them. And I am weeping.

    Love & Light,

How sad that the richest country in the world can't behave with the compassion and understanding that most civilized countries have been showing for many years.

Thank you for your very enlightening post, Rose. I hope that Jon will recover from his medical crisis soon and be able to face even this bad news.

    This is very very sad.

Thank you agate for your well wishes for Jonathan. He is much better now, after several days of scaring us, with our hands on the phone to call paramedics. I am exhausted and emotionally spent, which leaves me especially low on coping tools for this election outcome.

Tonight, Jon mentioned "Obama" and "Hillary." I just responded. "President Obama is still our President. We'll talk about the rest later."

I refuse to say that Hillary lost. She won the popular vote. But, because we depend upon an antiquated Electoral College, her opponent was elected. It is way past time that we get rid of the Electoral College. This isn't the 1800s. We need to upgrade our government to the 21st century.

Additionally, I am quite concerned that Putin publicly congratulated the president-elect today. How many red flags do we need to figure this out?

I find it very difficult to heed President Obama's and Hillary's encouragement that we support the president-elect and unite behind him. They are politicians, so perhaps they can just brush off the dreadful things he said during his campaign about everyone except white men. But I'm just an average citizen, and I can't.

So, I'm trying to rely on the advice of MLK Jr:

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
