Mary Grace, I am so sorry for the passing of your brother in law. I do hope that your family will still have some joy in the Easter celebrations this weekend. Tamie, I'm so glad that the doctors have FINALLY diagnosed poor Tyler. Now, perhaps there will be a treatment plan and some comfort for your beautiful young man. Love to all and blessings this Easter. Rose, I am just catching up on emails today xox
Donna, Mum to Natalie (22), ablebodied, kind and beautiful and Nicholas(26), severe CP, non-verbal, tube fed, multiple surgeries, chronic pain, happy kid except when the Liverpool football club or the Ottawa Senators Hockey Team are losing!

    Hi all,

been awhile since i posted but i read quite regularly.

i've mostly just been working. still enjoying my job. as of a week ago I've been in it for 6 months! feels like a lot longer in some ways and shorter than others.

I also went on holiday for a week before Easter. went to my parents' place for a few days and then James and I went on a bit of a roadtrip up the coast. one of the most stunning areas in the world, I reckon. had a great time.

life has not been without its stresses. one main one has related to my powerchair breaking down a couple of weeks ago. I had to take taxis to work for a week and was very restricted in where Icould go. they returned it on Thursday while I was away so I used it for the first time last night.

James and I went for a lovely dinner and then for a walk around the water front as it was a nice evening. all was going well til I went over a bump and it turned itself off. I turned it on and it was fine but then a couple of blocks later I bumped into a stone and it went off and would not turn back on at all. so the poor guy had to push the chair (150kg) with me in it about a mile. nearly killed him I think but we made it eventually.

then to make the night even more stressful, I fell as I was getting out of the shower. first time I have done that in this bathroom. I have a grab bar on the wall but I wasn't concentrating fully and stepped wrong, stumbled, grabbed the bar too hard, and fell when it came off the wall. so then I had to get myself off the bathroom floor back into my manual wheelchair. I twisted my little toe when I landed and it was very painful but otherwise I am ok. Just stiff and sore today and I think my toe is strained but probably not broken. I guess one plus of not walking much is not having to weight bear on it.

anyway, took the day off work today as I couldn't bear the thought of having to get in and out of taxis and push myself around. luckily my co workers are all very understanding and willing to help. and also luckily, the chair was easily fixed this time. turns out the battery plug was not in properly so all that was required was the repair people to open the battery cover and put it in properly.

back to it tomorrow... fingers crossed there are no more mechanical or bodily issues!!
Enjoying the excitements of life. Looking forward to what's to come! What a ride!

    ((((((Erin)))))) ~

I'm so happy that you had wonderful experiences mingled with your wheelchair battery problem and injuring yourself getting out of the shower.

I recommend Witch Hazel for everything, because it works. Drug stores usually sell Witch Hazel over the counter (I hope they do in New Zealand). Saturate a paper towel, kleenex, whatever is handy, with Witch Hazel. Apply it to your toe, or to any of your sore areas from the fall. Witch Hazel is a natural anti-infammatory, and it promotes healing, reduces bruising, and is quite soothing. Tape the saturated paper towel/kleenex/whatever to the area, leave it in place for as long as possible, and refresh the bandage with Witch Hazel, when it dries out.

I hope that you're giving yourself plenty of time to recover from the fall. Any fall is a trauma to the body, so allow time to heal, and be acutely aware if something is taking a long time to heal, then seek medical attention. (That's the Mama coming out in me! )

Sending healing prayers and good w/c energy your way ~
