Thumbs up Special Olympics World Games 2015

    ((((((Hugs to All)))))) ~

The 2015 Special Olympics World Games will be broadcast on ESPN beginning this evening with the opening ceremony (which was fabulous) until the Games conclude on August 2.

The Games are being held at the historic Coliseum in Los Angeles.

If you can locate a rebroadcast on TV or on line of the Opening Ceremony, I highly recommend watching it. It's about 3 1/2 hours long, but it is full of music, dance, and inspiring stories. Definitely watch it with your kids, if possible.

Jon and Michael were Special Olympians in our county. They received trophies and ribbons and had a wonderful time with their peers. And me ~ Proud Mama! Such a fabulous experience!

It's just great to see the TV coverage the Special Olympics are receiving this year. We'll be tuning in every day to cheer on all of the athletes!

Our Angel Michael received his wings in 2003 and now resides in Heaven. Our Angel Jon lives at home with me and Jim, the world's most wonderful dad.

    Hi Rose!
I'm sorry I can't watch it here in the north woods, but I heard that it was on from friends and that it was wonderful! I'm so glad that everyone has the chance to see the joy and excitement of the games!

    Unhappy

    ((((((Donna)))))) ~

We were disappointed today to discover that ESPN only had one half hour dedicated to "highlights" of the Special Olympics. We tuned in at 4 p.m., and it wasn't even being shown! Pan-American Games volleyball was on. I will check again this evening for a re-broadcast, but one half hour is just a token, compared to the coverage other events receive.

Today, our local ABC station aired a program about the Special Olympics, interviews with athletes and their parents. Also only a half hour.

I did find some clips of the Opening Ceremony on YouTube.

Sadly, we aren't going to be able to watch the Games. So much for the rhetoric about inclusion, acceptance, equality, and "the whole world is watching you."

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi8...2uCQSFZNiYtuMQ This youtube channel shows Paralympic and Special Olympic live streams and video highlights. I also find ESPN to be completely useless in this area. Such a shame.
