H.R. 624 aka CISPA (Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act)

I've been reading about this bill for a few days now and now stand 100% against it based on the (perceived and real) loop holes contained within all of the legal mumbo jumbo.

In a nutshell this bill will allow "certified entities" to share their entire database with other "certified entities" and the Department of Homeland Security (DoH) without regard to any personal and/or confidential information contained within. This bill would override any privacy policy the "certified entities" have in place to protect their clientele/members. Entire databases would be "shared" between these "certified entities" and/or the DoH without any attempt to remove personally identifiable information such as names, email addresses, physical addresses, medical records, financial records, internet browsing, etc etc.

Now I could be wrong on some of the points I brought up, I'm not a lawyer and I don't fully comprehend all of the double speak used in the bill, but I certainly hope that the Senate beats this bill down to the cellar and sets it on fire.

Question: Why can't I post links or pictures?
Question: Why can't I have a signature, avatar, or profile picture?
Question: What's wrong with my account?

Answer: You are in the "registered users" user group. This group is very limited in what it can do. This will annoy spammers to no end Just keep posting once you have been registered for 30 days and have made 11 posts your account will be "unlocked".

It's really easy to put someone on ignore and it's strongly recommended that you do so with people who's posts you don't like.

    Step 1 - log in
Step 2 - click on the "settings" link
Step 3 - click on the "edit ignore list" link on the left side of the screen
Step 4 - type (or paste if you copied and pasted it) the username of the person you want to ignore
Step 5 - click the "ok" button on the right of the screen

Easy peasy and will lower your blood pressure. One important note though, this won't hide quoted posts. It's an oversight on the developers part and it's not an easy thing to "fix." So if someone quotes someone you have ignored, you'll see the quote.

Alternatively when you click on a person's name and view their profile page, underneath their avatar, there is a option that says, "Ignore this person". Click that link and then click the yes button.

I'm not a lawyer either, but I sure don't like the sounds of this. For example, our family uses an online care coordination tool that stores our will, end of life directives for our son and other very sensitive documents. The security on the site is similar to banking. So, can homeland security now access private banking records too? Balancing security and privacy is a very tricky business, but we HAVE to protect our privacy as well as our security!!!!

Isn't it sad that we need to be lawyers or political scientists or ... whatever ... to understand laws, which control our lives?

The Senate knocked this bill down the last time it made the rounds, pre-amendments. From the little, which I've read about CISPA, these amendments do nothing to protect our privacy.

Pre-amendments, President Obama vowed to veto HR 624/CISPA if it passed through Congress.

I'm not a lawyer either, but it wouldn't surprise me if CISPA was merely an attempt to legalize what they are already doing.

If they want to know everything about you, they will.

      Color me cynical.

The way I understand it your online care coordinating site would have to become a "certified entity", otherwise the government would need a search warrant I don't remember reading anywhere in the bill how a company becomes a "certified entity". I do understand that the company has to have a security clearance although the level of security is not mentioned.

I agree with Rose, the government probably already does this and this is just a move to cover their butts.

I hear ya Rose. I always had a bad vibe with the social media outlets. For some reason I never had bad vibes about forums as a whole, there are some that I won't trust ever, and there are others that lost their way and are now on my block list

The scary thing is, forums aren't exempt or protected from this action either

i read this today: Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register...

cispa will not be heard by the senate and they're going to craft a bill of their own. so right now, things are at a standstill.

i signed the white house petition against cispa and i want to thank all the others who did.

The Government tracks us in numerous ways. Look up and see all the camera's as you walk down the street and in stores - best to wear a baseball hat w/Visor and sunglass's, as it throws off Facial recognition. Social media - you bet your butt employers as well a the Government look at it don't do it - that post you thought was funny could come back and bite you in the butt. Your smart phone tracks you - if you don't need it, leave it in the car or at home. Be aware the government intercepts Every phone call and all Internet traffic. I have been in IT for OVER thirty years, have worked for defense contractors, the Telco. I am not paranoid and you ARE being watched. Google earth can pinpoint your home - The military dithers (scrambles the signal) so you can't read a license plate for example - THEY CAN. I am Glad I am as old as I am, My childhood was much better then what are kids have now - no recess, no looong summer vacation, let kids be kids for crying out loud. they are NOT miniature adults.
Thank you and remember our 1st.,2nd. 4th. and fifth amendment rights - look them up if you need to, but they are just a few of the most important ones (they are all important) and hold the government's feet to the fire on them. I hope I have not crossed T.O.S. but these things are what I believe in.

                      Blessings
