    The night before school....

    Hi!

School starts tomorrow! This summer has just FLOWN by way too fast! We did manage to get down to Wisconsin Dells for an overnight trip. It was great! We had Caitlin & Logan stay at Brian's parents and just took the older 2 boys. We went to Mt Olympus waterpark so really not much for C to do and Logan is too little to get on any good rides and honestly, we really didn't want to have to watch him all the time in the water! I always feel a little guilty leaving them behind, but I do manage to enjoy it and not think about that while we are actually there. Brian's parents are the only ones who would take C for an extended period like that and they are getting older so it is now or never for little trips.

I got Caitlin's ankle braces in the mail this week! They are way more 'strappy' than they looked in the picture online. Tried them out a few times and she does tolerate them pretty good. Haven't tried them overnight yet, wanted to make sure they don't irritate her feet any more than the AFO's do. They really remind me of the Theratogs we tried with her a long time ago. They are made of the same stuff.

Tyler is still having the headaches, been doing ibuprofin, but not the 3x/day the dr suggested. I am a 'less is more' with the medicine as y'all may have noticed! I had been doing just morning and evening, we had to do it anyway as he got stung by a bee last week and his whole hand swelled up HUGE! Stung in the lower knuckle of the finger and the hand was swelled up like a balloon from fingertip to wrist. In fact, you can still see the one hand is larger than the other still after 7 days. We did take him to the ER and had it checked out but they said to just keep with the benedryl and ibuprofin. Poor T! He has been saying he 'hates school' so I really think he is just stressing over the upcoming year. He did not have a good year last year in first grade. I feel so bad that he hates school and he is only in 2nd grade. Fingers crossed that his year is different this year. He has a great teacher, I went to high school with her and she is super nice so that is a positive! Plus her own kids are the same ages as mine so she can relate well I feel. And his neighborhood friend is in the same class with him so that should help too.

Today I stepped down on caitlin's topamax again... she is down to 0mg in the morning and just 15mg in the evening! Yay! It has just been so great! No more psycho rages and her personality is shining through again. My in-laws (that watched her for 2 days) were just amazed at how much better she is! Why oh why don't drs listen to us parents?! I am hoping she has a great year and can learn a lot. She was watching tv the other day and the show flashed the word 'cat' on the screen and it asked if the kids could say the word (without the show telling what it was) and she said 'cat'! I was amazed!!! She had not been reading very much last year...had really been losing a lot of skills she could do so I was really impressed that she read that! And thursday at PT, her PT said Caitlin had the best day they had had in a LONG time...I hope these good things keep continuing!!!

So happy for you for the successful Topamax wean and that you've got your girl back! I don't have first hand experience with it, but I know others, who say it can cause unpleasant behavior and rages. And good news that Caitlin is tolerating her ankle bracelets. Hope they help her.

Poor Tyler with those headaches. Does the Ibuprofen help? And a bee sting. Ouch! Saying a prayer that the headaches subside and that the new school year turns out to be a great one for Tyler.

Good luck to all of your children and you this school year!

That's wonderful that C is doing so well!! Were her past issues reading from the seizures? I'm sorry about Tyler though.

I hope the first day went well for everyone. So sorry about tyler's continuing headaches. I hope they subside soon. I'm with you I hate doing meds. Unfortunatly Kathleen has ot take several. I especially hate starting new ones.
