    heart issues

I had a mild heart attack last month. So trying to change some things in my life. Unfortunately I am seeing nothing positive about MMJ use and heart health. Indica, high CBD Medibles have been recommended for pain but the THC helps with my bipolar and anxiety and my feet burning which usually requires a hybrid. I only dose once a day now and only if necessary using shatter. This I will have to quit totally. Caregiver recommends CBD capsules for me to try. My body hurts so bad and I have one Norco and one Tramadol (which is a joke) that I have been hoarding for months for an emergency. Not sure what I will do but I need to make a decision soon.

When it comes to heart health, the main risk is high blood sugar. It's not the fat we eat, but the fat we make. And it very much depends on how advanced your condition is. I've had
stent work twice (totally painless, perfectly straightforward). Saved my life on both occasions. Last time they discovered I was full blown diabetic, for the last 20 years probably, and
    I never knew it!

If you're having an event, you need to get help right away. Don't wait! Cannabis is probably unrelated to your symptoms. You need to cut out all sugars completely, right away. You're probably diabetic, whatever they say. Basically, anything above 150 needs to be treated daily. Insulin will stop the progression of your condition cold. If your doctor isn't thinking about your blood sugar, you have the wrong doctor.

Since finding out about my diabetes, I consume no sugar at all - no fruit, no juice, no sweets whatsoever - and I'm frequently still off the charts (like +300). Without my twice daily insulin injections, I wouldn't be here. What I'm saying is, anxiety may well be exacerbating you're condition, but what if poor vascular health is the underlier?

Please read my recent thread "Alternative treatments for chronic pain", and let's try and work on your 1) pain, and 2) anxiety issues separately. You are more than welcome to mail me anytime at peabody@cmail.nu, or we can carry on this discussion here.

    Best wishes now and always.

no stents, no high blood pressure, in fact it's a bit low with the new heart meds, my doc is a real stickler about checking blood and urine for everything, no diabetes. I am overweight, smoke, though I did quit for a month after, will quit again.

Cut out most of the sweets I was eating, adding more veggies, still eating too many carbs. Too much prepared foods. With my pain level it's easier

Finally got the go ahead with new PM clinic and MRI but because I have on a life vest they can't do MRI and no back injections due to blood thinners. Will see cardiologist on Monday and see if he can give me better idea as to what is going on and why. I hallucinated almost the entire four days in the hospital. They asked a lot of questions. Almost like they weren't able to pin any one thing down for cause. I never got an answer.

I'm so sorry that you've had a heart attack, and I'm grateful that it was mild, and that you are being monitored. I know several people, who ignored their heartburn and/or flu like symptoms and died from a heart attack. (I read your post on the Emotional Support forum.)

A dear friend recently went through a battery of cardio tests and was told he was fine. He still didn't feel well and went to ER, where a 90% blockage was discovered! He has a stent now and is doing well. His lifestyle changes included quitting smoking and starting on a whole food plant-based diet. He has lost weight, and he feels so much better in general.

        Here's the diet he's following:

Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register...

Jim and I are trying to transition to this vegan approach from being vegetarians for over 20 years. We do eat dairy. I have tried several of the recipes on the FOK site, and they are delicious and not complicated to prepare.

We also have RA (and I have PA as well). We've found that the vegetarian diet has benefited us in reducing inflammation, as well as boosting our immune systems.

I encourage you to stop eating red meat, at the very least. It requires a long time to digest, and it's contributory to heart disease. I'd give you links, but I'm pressed for time right now.

As we're getting older, and Jim has Stage IV cancer, we are now taking CBD oil capsules. It's astonishing how many conditions are improved through CBD oil. I think everyone should be taking them. EVERYONE.

CBD oil is available in a variety of forms, including edibles, vapes, capsules, sprays, tinctures. I highly recommend that you pursue CBD oil to control your pain, inflammation, and heart issues. In fact, in lieu of a cigarette, you could vape with a CBD oil cartridge.

Likewise, THC comes in those forms, so if you were smoking it, there are safer ways to use it now. It has been shown to help with many conditions, including pain, stress, anxiety, appetite, and bi polar disorder.

Is MMJ legal in your state?

Another factor in heart attacks is stress, and I know you have a plate full. It's easy to say and hard to do (believe me, I know), but we have to learn to let go of as many stressors as possible, and then we have to learn how to respond to stressors, so that they don't do us in. We can't change the situations that stress us or the people, who stress us, so we have to learn to change how we respond.

We can try counting to 10 or 100, whatever is needed, take deep breaths, put the stressor in perspective with our other stressors (as in, on a scale of 1 to 10, how significant is this?), meditation, yoga, visualization ...

It takes work and practice, but you have to do that for yourself. Also, exercise, taking a walk, getting fresh air. And laughing and crying, because both release chemicals and hormones, which help us to heal. (I've done a lot of research on stress, particularly for grieving parents.)

Remember that the mind, body, and soul are connected, and each one needs nurturing and care. So, whatever you need to do to feed your soul, which you've likely been neglecting, do it. Make a practice of nourishing your soul every day. Set aside time for that specific purpose. Whether it is prayer, meditation, gardening, sitting in the sun, enjoying nature, listening to music, sewing ... whatever it is for you, do it. Do it for you.

You don't just have to heal your heart, you have to heal your entire being. It wasn't just one thing that caused your heart attack. It was an accumulation of many different things. So, clean house, and begin again.

You are important. You are needed. You are loved. Love yourself. Take care of yourself. Be gentle and kind with yourself. Forgive yourself. Hug yourself with the love you have for others.

        Please keep us updated.

You are in my prayers ~

        Love & Light,

Rose with the heart of a poet. Thank you I love hearing from you because you are so wise and caring. Yes marijuana is legal in my state and I have my card. My caregivers have offered to do the cbd caps for me. They have a patient who has many cancerous tumors that are disappearing with their use. I have thought of the vape pen but I would have to be careful about the delivery chemicals that carry the oils. I can get prefilled cbd syringes with dosages right on the side. Those have worked for my pain but they are expensive. I will ask my caregiver what they can do for me.

cbd oil is amazing for many different things. I talked to a man who was prescribed 7 10mg doses of methadone a day for his horrible pain, he said it only took the edge off. He started doing med MMJ and was able to get off of the pain pills. I've seen many people come in and get stuff for their elderly parents who are pain wracked, unable to eat, young men who have TBI from playing football, a lot of PTSD patients who at one time never left their homes, now they come and visit with the caregivers and other patients.

I don't know if you have ever tried them but they make lotions that are infused and with regular use can do wonders for things like fibro and arthritis some people who get headaches rub it on their temples a few times to keep it at bay. I have some samples that caregiver friends have given me to try.

          thank you again rose

We use CBD oil caps, and Jim's oncologist is impressed with how well he is doing. He is getting chemo also. But we strongly feel that the CBD oil caps are a factor.

Vape pens are not like e-cigarettes. Disposable vape pens sometimes have polyethelene glycol mixed with the oil, but there are many options for solvent-free CBD and THC vape cartridges. Of course, there are tons of chemicals in cigarettes, so you'd still be safer with a vape pen.

Jim has a topical spray with CBD and THC, which does help relieve RA pain. We've seen the lotions as well.

Since you love chocolate, you might consider a chocolate edible.

To reduce your caffeine intake, you might want to try Matcha tea. It's a green tea with lots of antioxidants and much less caffeine than black tea. Jim drinks Matcha tea (and he's British and loves his cuppa), although not as often as he should. He also loves espresso, but we've had to curb the amount he consumes.

When I started having elevated blood pressure readings, I switched to half caf and half decaf for my coffee. I hope to eventually transition to decaf.

I read the remainder of your post here, before you edited it, and then I saw that you posted it on the What's Happening thread.

It's really a sad commentary on our society that prepared foods, full of chemicals, salt, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, additives, etc. are more affordable than fresh healthy food. This is so upsetting to me, and I don't know what we can do about it. It's just wrong.

Shortcake is getting chubby. And that is sad too, because if you and he were eating fresh, healthy food, you wouldn't have weight issues.

The Forks over Knives site has many recipes and even a month's meal planner. Just look up some of the recipes and try them. We love the No Tuna Salad with chickpeas. Once you purchase the ingredients, which seem expensive at the initial purchase, you will discover that a jar of tahini sauce goes a long way, as do pickles and capers. And 1 can of chickpeas will make at least 4 hearty sandwiches for you and Shortcake.

A box of healthy grains cereal, or oatmeal, will last you for awhile. Instead of bread, have cereal, with fruit, almond or coconut milk, and toss in some cinnamon or a touch of maple syrup, some almonds or walnuts, raisins. And those walnuts, almonds and raisins can be snack food, in lieu of popcorn or chips.

Instead of buying sodas, buy juice. Even diet sodas are bad for us. I used to drink Fresca, and I suddenly realized one day that it was making me feel awful. Aspartame. Avoid it. I turned to water. Plain water. And now I love water and would never look at a soda again. There's a video on the internet somewhere showing the result of boiling Coca Cola. It's a sludge of sugar.

With chocolate, you can try Lily's chocolate bars and chips, which are sweetened with Stevia. Just eat less of it, and still get the pleasure of it.

There's a Forks Over Knives documentary, which describes in detail how meat, dairy, and even oils affect our arteries and clamp down on our system. And how these foods contribute to other diseases, including cancer, and exacerbate auto immune disorders.

You survived this heart attack, which is serving as a warning to you that you must make lifestyle changes to prevent another one. So, keep thinking outside of the box, and exploring options to improve your health, like joining the Y and swimming.

Once you start taking better care of yourself, you will likely see a dramatic change in how you feel physically and emotionally. It's all connected.

You will have renewed energy, and you will start cleaning your house.

I believe that our homes are ourselves, and when our home is a mess, we are a mess. When you look around you, and things are out of order, you don't know where to begin. So, pick a room, just one room, and devote yourself to cleaning and tidying it up. Just that room. Don't think about the other rooms, or the garage, or the yard. Just that room.

When it's all clean and fresh, and you stand back and admire your accomplishment, you will feel good! And proud of yourself!

I find a list helpful. Today, I am going to do this, this, and this. And when I go to bed, I check off: I did this, this and this. Yay Me!

Housework is exercise, remember that too!

This is a marathon, not a sprint, as the saying goes, so don't try to do everything at once. Pace yourself, and each day find something new to do that is good for you.

For exercise, you might also consider QiGong or Tai Kawn Do. I probably misspelled those! But these are exercises designed to help the entire being, and involve gentle movements. There are video tapes available to teach you how to do these exercises, some designed specifically for people with disabling conditions, back pain, RA, MS, etc. Most likely lots of free videos on YouTube as well.

A hobby is also a great way to reduce stress. Many years ago, before Michael passed, I would take a half hour every so often to sit on our patio and create floral arrangements. It helped me center my being, so that I could continue with my responsibilities. Creativity can be very healing.

Keep exploring avenues to bring you to a healthy state, to mend your heart and nourish your soul. You will find what is right and best for you, as you must, because, well, your life depends upon it.

You have all of the tools you need. Just use them.

            Love & Light,

            Rose
